The limestone kiln, as a critical industrial facility, emits flue gas containing a significant amount of sulfur dioxide, posing serious threats to the environment and human health. Among the flue gas desulfurization processes, dry desulfurization and wet desulfurization are the two mainstream technological approaches. This article will compare and analyze the advantages of dry desulfurization and the limitations of wet desulfurization from the perspectives of process principles, operational effectiveness, and economic efficiency.  

 

1. Technical Advantages of Dry Desulfurization  

 

Dry desulfurization employs powdered desulfurizing agents to achieve sulfur removal through gas-solid reactions. Taking circulating fluidized bed dry desulfurization as an example, the desulfurization efficiency can exceed 95%, with stable and reliable system operation. This process requires no water, completely avoiding wastewater treatment issues, making it particularly suitable for water-scarce regions. Additionally, the by-products of dry desulfurization are in dry form, facilitating transportation and comprehensive utilization, which effectively reduces operational costs.  

 

2. Technical Limitations of Wet Desulfurization  

 

Although wet desulfurization offers high desulfurization efficiency, it has notable drawbacks. Firstly, the system demands large amounts of process water and generates saline wastewater, which is difficult and costly to treat. Secondly, the reduction in flue gas temperature can easily lead to "gypsum rain," causing secondary pollution to the surrounding environment. Furthermore, wet desulfurization systems are complex, suffer from severe equipment corrosion, and incur high maintenance costs.  

 

3. Economic Comparison  

 

In terms of investment costs, dry desulfurization systems are simpler, occupy less space, and require over 30% lower construction investment compared to wet desulfurization. Regarding operational costs, dry desulfurization consumes less energy, eliminates wastewater treatment expenses, and reduces comprehensive operational costs by 40%-50% compared to wet desulfurization. Taking a limestone kiln with an annual output of 300,000 tons as an example, adopting dry desulfurization can save more than 1.5 million yuan in annual operating costs.  

 

With increasingly stringent environmental protection requirements, dry desulfurization is becoming the preferred process for limestone kiln flue gas treatment due to its technical advantages and economic benefits. In the future, as dry desulfurization technology continues to innovate and improve, its application prospects will broaden further. When selecting a desulfurization process, enterprises should fully consider their specific conditions and environmental protection requirements to choose the most suitable technological approach.
